Platinum #347: VA-11 HALL-A

Hey there!

If you ever wanted to try a Visual Novel, go for this game. It has a decent story and a lot of drinks!

What is the game all about?
VA-11 HALL-A, or simply Valhalla, is the name of the bar in which this Visual Novel takes place. You take control over Jill, who works at this bar as a bartender.
You will meet various characters who will tell you their story and order drinks. These drinks must be prepared and served by you. But be careful to serve the correct drinks, otherwise the customers might become angry, which will have a high impact on the story. This may lead into different dialogues or the customers not returning at all. If you make too many mistakes, you’ll get fired. Then, it’s game over!
At the end of each day, you’ll get your earnings and return home. There you can spend your hard earn money on things you need or buy some decorations. You can even buy a PC, on which you can play a short but hard shoot ‘em up. But don’t waste too much money! Otherwise you won’t be able to pay your rent.
The game has awesome cyberpunk pixel-art and a great soundtrack. Speaking of which you can change in the juke every day.
The story and character are great and as this game share the same universe as 2064: Read Only Memories, there are also some cameo appearances of 3 different characters. But you must meet some specific criteria to make them appear.
If you every wanted to try out a Visual Novel, play VA-11 HALL-A. It’s truly a great story-driven game.

What about trophies?
There are a lot of missable trophies, like serving all correct drinks or making some cameos appear. Furthermore, there are different endings and you also must play and beat the shmup I’ve written above. Luckily, there’s a great text guide on playstationtrophies.org, with which you’ll be able to unlock nearly everything in one playthrough. The rest can be unlocked by loading a back-up save.

Where can I get this game?
VA-11 HALL-A can be found in most of the PSN stores. But be aware, it’s Vita only. So, you might buy it in the store your main account is tied to.
If you need PSN cards, you can buy them at play-asia.com or at scdkey.com. There you get digital codes, which will be send to you via e-mail within minutes.
There has also been a limited physical release by limitedrungames.com, but it’s sold out already. You might want to try your luck on eBay.
Alternatively, you can buy the Japanese version on play-asia.com. Alas, it’s in Japanese only.

As a trophy hunter, should I get this game?
Yes, as it can be completed within 4-5 by using a guide. It’s also recommended to everyone who likes Visual Novels or ever wanted to try one.

FarCry 5

The Far Cry 5 is an action-adventure first-person shooter video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Toronto and published by Ubisoft for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It is the successor to the 2014 video game Far Cry 4, and the fifth main installment in the Far Cry series. The game was released on March 27, 2018.

The game is a standalone successor to its predecessor, and takes place in Hope County, a fictional region of Montana. The main story revolves around doomsday cult the Project at Eden's Gate and its charismatic leader Joseph Seed. Players control an unnamed junior deputy sheriff who becomes trapped in Hope County, and must work alongside factions of a resistance to liberate the county from the despotic rule of Seed and Eden's Gate. Gameplay focuses on combat and exploration; players battle enemy soldiers and dangerous wildlife using a wide array of weapons. The game features many elements found in role-playing games, such as a branching storyline and side quests. The game also features a map editor, a co-operative multiplayer mode, and a competitive multiplayer mode.

Announced in early 2017, development on Far Cry 5 was extensive. The team explored several concepts before settling on a domestic location. The game was heavily inspired by several socio-political events in modern history, such as the Cold War and the September 11 attacks. The development team sought to capture the despondent social climate after the events and re-purpose it for the game. Developed and published solely by Ubisoft, its competitive multiplayer mode was also created in-house, with the company's worldwide studios gaining more creative input for Far Cry 5.

Far Cry 5 was met with mostly positive critical reception upon release, although was the subject of controversy after being announced alongside a period of heightened political conflicts. Critics praised the open world design, visuals, and soundtrack, but directed criticisms towards its story and some of the characters. The game was a commercial success, however, and quickly became the fastest-selling title in the franchise, grossing over $310 million in its first week of sales. It also birthed several additional releases of downloadable content.

Mortal Kombat XL is an action-adventure game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for PlayStation 4 in May 2016. Following Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, it is the final Uncharted game to feature protagonist Nathan Drake (portrayed by Nolan North). Drake, retired from fortune hunting with his wife Elena, reunites with his estranged older brother Sam and longtime partner Sully to search for Captain Henry Avery's lost treasure.

The game features larger and more open levels than previous Uncharted games; players have more freedom to explore and move in combat, progress through enemy encounters undetected using stealth, and can use vehicles. Sony revealed Uncharted 4 at the North America PlayStation 4 launch event in November 2013. Development was hampered by extensive script changes and reshoots following the departures of lead Uncharted writer and creative director Amy Hennig and director Justin Richmond in March 2014. Bruce Straley and Neil Druckmann, who had directed Naughty Dog's previous game, The Last of Us, became the directors.
Reviewers found Uncharted 4 a worthy conclusion to Nathan Drake's arc, with praise directed for its narrative, emotional depth, visual quality, multiplayer mode, improved gameplay, and music. It was the best-reviewed game of 2016, receiving numerous year-end accolades, including various Game of the Year awards from several gaming publications and award events. The game sold over 2.7 million copies in its first week of release, becoming the fastest-selling entry in the series and the best-selling PlayStation 4 game. A standalone expansion, The Lost Legacy, was released in 2017. read more
